Fresh Coconut

Opening the Coconut:

  1. Choose a Young Coconut: Fresh coconuts are typically green in color and have a smooth, shiny husk. They are younger and have more water and softer flesh than mature coconuts used for coconut milk and grated coconut.
  2. Crack the Husk: Use a sharp knife to carefully make a cut in the top portion of the coconut, exposing the inner flesh. This can be done by tapping the knife gently on the top until it cracks.
  3. Straw or Spoon: You can insert a straw into the hole you’ve made to drink the coconut water directly from the coconut. Alternatively, you can use a spoon to scoop out the soft jelly-like flesh.
